Volunteer With Us And Have Fun!

Hollyburn Jackrabbits depend on parents to run and operate the Club. We need coaches of all levels. New coaches are partnered with experienced coaches. You'll have fun and improve your ski technique by attending our free certification course and regular upgrade clinics. We also need parents to help with many non-skiing jobs. Join our fun-loving group of volunteers! Share your knowledge and enthusiasm!

Jackrabbit coaches and officials (race committee) receive:
  • Free training in coaching and skiing skills or officiating
  • Free upgrade courses for returning coaches
  • Program discount for your children
  • Discounted pre-purchased (from Cypress) session trail passes valid for instructional days for coaches (responsible for own equipment rental)
  • Registration priority
The types of volunteers that we are looking for include:
  • Coaches
  • Session Coordinators
  • Assistant Program Coordinator
  • Group Assistants
  • Assistants for Session Coordinators
  • Fundraising and Phoning
  • Club Equipment Maintenance
  • Special Events Committee
  • Volunteer Coordinator
  • Race Committee (Officiating)

For the upcoming ski season, we are in particular seeking a new Sunday Afternoon Session Coordinator. Contact us at hollyburn_jackrabbits@hotmail.com if you have any questions about these positions or are interested in helping.

Volunteering as a coach or session coordinator qualifies your family for early registration. Please see the registration page for details.

To volunteer, please fill out the volunteer page on the Zone4 online registration. If you are new to the club, e-mail us your name, mailing address, telephone number and e-mail address that you prefer to use for all club communications and we will send you a registration notification e-mail that contains a web link that takes you to the registration form. The volunteer page is the second page in the registration process.

In addition to the selected program sessions, new coaches will also be required to attend two training courses and all coaches are expected to attend a pre-season meeting and refresher sessions. Please see below for dates and further details. Since the registration limits are partly based on the number of coaches available, please verify your availability before signing up as a coach.

Any coaches that will be travelling to races and other events with the Racing Program or Teens on Skis will be required to complete a criminal record check.

If you are unsure of how you might help, please e-mail the club and be sure to list your telephone number. We would love to discuss with you where you can be of assistance.

Coaching Commitments (2009/10)

Those volunteering as a Skills Development Program coach are expected to commit to the following:

  • October 19 - Track Attack coaches organizational meeting.
  • November 6 (evening) and 7 (all day) - Introduction to Community Coaching course, for new coaches only.
  • November 23 (evening) - Jackrabbit/bunny coaches organizational meeting.
  • December 4 (evening), 5 and 6 (all day) - Community Coaching course, for new coaches only.
  • December 6 - Refresher ski session for returning coaches.
  • December 12/13 - January 30/31 - Coach seven Jackrabbit or Bunny program sessions of your selected session. Some coaches will need to coach the weekday evening sessions as well. We expect coaches to attend each of their sessions, although arrangements can generally be made if it is necessary to miss one or two sessions. New coaches are partnered with experienced coaches whenever possible.

See the Coaching Schedule for further details. There may be coaching courses offered on alternative dates in neighbouring communities. See the Cross Country B.C. Course Schedule for a full course offering listing.

Since we base our registration numbers on the numbers of coaches volunteering, anybody withdrawing as a coach after committing to do so can expect their family's registration to be cancelled (with the ensuant 15% fee on the refund).
