Coaching Expectations

Hollyburn Jackrabbit Ski Club is committed to training and supporting our club coaches so that we can provide our adult and child members with the best possible learning environment.

The club will:

  1. Provide training sessions to help coaches to improve both skiing and coaching skills.

  2. Build opportunities through training sessions for coaches to network and share ideas and strategies with each other (TEAM = Together Everyone Achieves More).

  3. Fully reimburse coaches for all successfully completed NCCP coaching courses, and pay 50% for successfully completed CANSI courses (please get pre-approval from coaching committee before signing up for courses on your own).

  4. Provide support materials with regard to teaching progressions, games, and badge requirements.

  5. Provide support for club coaches through:
    - experienced support coaches present during each session to answer questions and provide strategies and feedback
    - club coaching library
    - website information and links

Hollyburn Jackrabbit Ski Club expects club coaches will:

  1. Sign and adhere to the Cross Country B.C. Coaching Code of Conduct.

  2. Complete a criminal record check if you will be involved with the Racing Program or Teens on Skis programs and going on trips to races or other events.

  3. Attend the required training sessions.

  4. Commit to coaching for all sessions. In case of unavoidable absence, the coach should help the session coordinator find a replacement.

  5. Plan and conduct fun, safe and developmentally appropriate skiing sessions.

  6. Work within the program framework set out by the club (for example, with the exception of the racing program, Teens on Skis and special events, all groups will ski at Cypress Mountain).

  7. Use Cross Country B.C. and club criteria to award skill, distance and special badges.

  8. Continue to develop own skiing and coaching skills.
